War in Ukraine on social media: How to identify fake images

Ukraine's war shocked the world community. Finding reliable information from the war zone is increasingly difficult - especially when it comes from social media. You should take this into account.

It has been days since Russia invaded Ukraine. The world community is shocked at this war in Eastern Europe. 

In relation to this, there is an interest among the people in first-hand news and information straight from the war zone.

Facebook, Twitter and TikTok promise an uncluttered view of online news - but that is not always the case.

The Reuters news agency is collecting a number of examples of blurry, shaky videos and images taken in other parts of the world that are not current accounts of the war in Ukraine.

The Twitter posts claim that the images are from the current fight in Ukraine and show a missile battery being fired:

The video is at least four years old - Reuters found it on YouTube , for instance . However, it has been there for a long time - it was uploaded in December 2018 - and cannot possibly represent current events concerning the war:
