The US version of WhatsApp now accepts cryptocurrencies and digital payments
Facebook-Meta's Novi digital wallet allows American users to send and receive money from WhatsApp. This is an important step in the world of cryptocurrencies.
Users can use the service offered by Novi, without additional charge, for making payments and receiving them directly from chat rooms.
The program involves a relatively small number of accounts in the US territory at present, but if the testing phase goes well, it is expected the action will extend to at least India and Brazil.
A digital currency program called Libra, originally announced by Facebook in 2019 with the intention of revolutionizing the global economy, has been reborn as Novi.
All transactions will be conducted using the Pax Dollar (USDP) cryptocurrency, which belongs to the stable coin category, as opposed to bitcoins, because its value remains tied to the physical currency it is linked to, in this case the dollar.
The conversion is therefore guaranteed 1: 1 and immediate. Novi and WhatsApp have confirmed that the service does not require any type of commission at any stage of its use, from conversion to sending, as well as for depositing Pax Dollars on your wallet. The guarantee on the safekeeping of the sums is entrusted to Coinbase, a leading digital asset exchange platform based in San Francisco, founded in 2012 by Brian Armstrong and Fred Ehrsam.
